Commission Piece

This particular drawing is a long time in coming. I originally offered it for a friend a little while ago, but I never got around to doing it. Luckily, that friend has been very patient with me as I did various sketches, small stuff with the character, and everything. 

The problem I noticed was at the time I was asked to draw it, I was still in this sort of perfectionist mindset, where every line, every curve, and every shading had to have been perfect. A little Kubrickian I guess. Well. I've been working as a Freelance Writer since then and I've learned something in my time as a Writer. Things don't have to be perfect for clients. As long as it looks good, and they're involved in the process, they're happy to have someone helping express their creative needs.

So my friend came back to me and asked about that commission he paid for so long ago, and I thought it was time to set things right with him. I had a sketch that I wanted to do of the toon when I first started, and so I grabbed some good paper, my pencils and inks and sat down and sketched. Three hours later this is what came from it. So not bad for three hours of work. 

Since he paid for a basic outline (This), this is essentially what he got, and he was pretty happy with the outcome. Loved it in fact. For being patient with me though, I'm thinking this weekend of sitting down and coloring it in both digitally for practice (still need to learn to do that), and traditionally just as an added bonus for him. Shouldn't tke me more than a few hours I think. Maybe even a basic background!
